Virgin Media attacks the UK broadband market
Thursday, April 09, 2009 at 23:56 by Mark Benson
Even though Virgin Media Broadband has been one of the more aggressive broadband providers in the UK over recent times, the company is set to turn up the heat on many competitors with a new batch of "free goodies". Nicknamed "V Stuff" the new broadband packages will see those on the more expensive XXL 50Mbps package received unlimited online backup storage with the option of 1200 free photo prints per year. Those on the XL package will get 10GB storage and 600 prints with those on the L package receiving 5GB storage and 300 prints.

This is the latest onslaught from Virgin Media which has quickly become one of the best-known and more popular broadband providers across the UK. The company already has the fastest broadband network currently operating in the UK and is fighting for top spot with BT. The fact that Virgin Media has been able to bundle TV, telephone and Internet services together has given the company a significant lead over many competitors.

However, there are concerns that in the short to medium term we could see a number of the smaller UK broadband providers fall by the wayside as competition intensifies and funding issues become more apparent.
