TV channel surfers lose one week a year
Saturday, November 08, 2008 at 02:23 by Mark Benson
A survey commissioned by Microsoft has revealed that digital TV viewers in the UK lose one week a year surfing between channels. The survey found that the average digital TV viewer spent between two and three hours a day watching TV with up to 25% of this time spent surfing channels.

While the results of the survey makes for interesting reading they do appear to indicate that TV schedule services, whether in the newspaper, on the TV or a magazine and not fulfilling the TV fan of today. The survey also revealed that more than 70% who watch TV had missed their favourite programmes because they could not be bothered to find out when they were on.

Digital TV is set to become standard across the UK as the digital revolution continues to roll out with Scotland next on the list. While many of these surveys are very tongue in cheek they do offer an insight into what the TV viewer of today expects and what they actually receive. It will be interesting to see how online advertising, online services and online programming are affected by the digital revolution with some parties suggesting there will be too many channels to choose from and the consumer will lose their way.
