Yahoo left in the lurch after Google withdraws from deal
Thursday, November 06, 2008 at 14:15 by Mark Benson

In the midst of the Yahoo MSN takeover saga some months ago Google stepped into the frame as a white knight for Yahoo offering a potentially enormous advertising deal which killed the MSN merger stone dead. However, after months of negotiations with the regulators Google has decided to drop the advertising deal on concerns about anti-trust investigations and restrictions. So where does this leave Yahoo?

Despite months and months of fighting between MSN and Yahoo it looks as though Yahoo would like to try and resurrect the deal in a last-ditch attempt to save the company from losing further ground in the search engine wars. However, MSN has moved on since the days of Bill Gates and is under completely new management now. Whether the new driving force behind MSN would be happy to go back to the table on the same terms remain to be seen, if they actually do decide to go back and talk with Yahoo.

Investment analysts and shareholders on both sides would like to see these two sides back around the table as they are, combined, the only possible threat to the ever-growing Google. If MSN decided to go back and talk with Yahoo this must be a done deal!
