The new NHS computer system set to crash and burn?
Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 02:11 by Mark Benson
There have been calls from all sides of politics with regards to a review of the government's £12.7 billion NHS IT upgrade which has reportedly ran into trouble and could yet be scrapped. The new system will allow all data across the NHS to be integrated into one super system with the main emphasis on easy access to patient records.

According to original estimates the project is already four years behind schedule with rumours that suppliers and partners in the operation are concerned about the growing cost of the venture and the ever mounting delays. One of the main partners in the project is BT who have confirmed that there are a number of issues with the project but these are now being resolved and new revised dates for the launch of the system will be released shortly.

Historically government projects in the IT sector have always came in over budget and will behind schedule and the NHS IT upgrade appears to be no different. On one hand we have the authorities trying to cut costs with staff while spending in excess of £12 billion on a computer system which will actually be out of date by the time it is installed.
