Is the Hubble Space Telescope coming back to life?
Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 16:05 by Mark Benson
The Hubble Space Telescope continues to offer a unique look at life in outer space but the revolutionary device has been laying dormant for a couple of months now due to a computer failure. However, it looks as though engineers at NASA have managed to find a solution and they are working day and night to try to get the earth's eye in space back up and running.

While they are not quite sure why or how the internal computer system has failed they did manage to communicate with the Hubble Space Telescope recently and flick the switch to a back-up system. However, this seemed to reset an array of clocks and timers and knocked out the vital camera system for a short while.

The system has now reverted to another back-up mode but scientists are confident they know the area in which the fault is occurring and will be looking to send up an array of ‘spare parts' with the next shuttle mission. However, some are suggesting this optimistic as they have not actually been able to pinpoint the problem as yet.
