eBay member threatened with court over feedback
Friday, October 24, 2008 at 12:42 by Mark Benson
In a move which could have serious implications for the future of online auction giant eBay it has been announced that two members have disagreed over feedback which was left on a sellers account. The argument revolves around a mobile phone which was acquired on the site but when it arrived it was not the mobile that had been advertised and was allegedly chipped and scratched. However, it was returned and a full refund was given and then the fun started......

Whether he was correct to do so or not is open to debate, but the buyer (despite getting a full refund) decided to leave negative feedback on the sellers account and has now been threatened with legal action if he does not take the comments down from the site. Strictly speaking he is correct to leave the comment on the site but it has seemingly affected the business of the seller who is a large player on eBay. It may or may not end up in court but it will be interesting to see what the out come is.

If this self regulatory feedback system is threatened in court then this takes away the trust basis from eBay and could see a return to the bad old days before extra security was introduced.
