In another blow to the computing industry it has been revealed that an unknown number of the popular Eee Box desktop PCs have been found to contain malware which is causing concern for users. While the malware itself is not difficult to remove it is more the fact that the infection seems to have happened in the manufacturing process which is causing alarm. If a malware program can sneak through, that else has been missed?
While initially it was thought the Asustek products with the problems were exclusively manufactured for the Japanese market there have been instances of UK Eee Box desktop PCs being infected. However, it is unclear as to whether these were imports or if there is a problem with the UK supply line.
The virus in questions is an old version that dates back to 2006 spreading itself through removable drives although it is also known to log system data at the same time. While easy to remove and not a serious threat it is the fact it has sneaked under the radar at Asustek which is concern although it has to be said it is not the first group to have such problems in recent times. |
