A British man and his alleged German counterpart have both been named by the FBI as they hunt the remains of a team which brought a number of online websites to a halt after engaging serious online attacks. It seems as though a number of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks were used to bring down targeted websites leaving rivals to pick up the pieces when customers could not be serviced.
Lee Graham Walker from Bolton and Axel Gembe from Germany are charged with attacking two satellite equipment sites using a number of strategies to cause massive damage. Indeed one of the companies is said to have suffered losses in excess of $200,000 after being forced to halt production for two weeks after one attack. The pair have been charged with one count each of conspiracy and one each of intentionally damaging a computer system. The maximum jail term in the US for such actions is 15 years so if convicted they could be out of action for some time!
This is the tail end of another successful US investigation which resulted in two other connected parties being jailed for 2 years each on similar charges, although one of those found guilty is said to be on the run. |
