Is it time to fit the BT I-Plate?
Sunday, October 05, 2008 at 02:00 by Mark Benson
If BT is correct, then up to 9 million broadband users in the UK could be in for a real treat with the introduction of the I-Plate. This new device is being hailed as the next breakthrough in the broadband industry with many people reporting broadband speed increases of up to 1.5Mbps and a select few reporting increases of up to 4Mbps when using the device. So what is it and what does it do?

The new I-Plate is a device which clips into your BT phone socket and filters out all of the surround sound interference which may be impacting upon the performance of your broadband signal. The device is easy to fit, simply open up the phone socket and connect, and is seen by many as the saviour of the modern day curse of electronic surround interference from the likes of TVs, microwaves and other electronic equipment. But will it work for everyone?

Despite the high profile press releases and coverage the device has received of late it will not necessarily have a major impact upon every broadband user in the UK. Other elements such as how far you are from your nearest exchange will still impact upon your broadband speed but trials have shown the I-Plate does make a difference – just not for everybody.
