| Nokia to miss Christmas period with answer to iPhone |

When Nokia released the long awaited Nokia 5800 it seemed that finally there was something in the market place to wipe the smile off Apple and the iPhone, but the early optimism has turned sour over the last few days with news that the Nokia 5800 will not be ready in time for Christmas. It seems as though the iPhone will again have the Christmas market all to itself as Apple attempt to increase the phones customer base before competitors attack.
This is a real blow for Nokia as they have very high hopes for the touch screen Nokia 5800 – as do many analysts who had expected the phone to be in the shops for Christmas. However, on a positive note it has been forecast that Nokia will ship in excess of 10 million Nokia 5800 phones next year and start to erode the customer base of the iPhone.
While there is no doubting that the iPhone is THE phone of the modern times many observers have been crying out for more competition to keep Apple on its toes. The emergence of the Nokia 5800 had caused some alarm at Apple but the fact Christmas looks like being another clear run will make up for any short term concerns. |
