While the OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) sector has been very much in the news over the last 12 months there are still many people who do not believe that the sector has any real future. There has been more than one false dawn for the OLED sector and this has led to a general pessimism about the technology and all that it stands for, until now!
Sony has released a prototype of a bendy, foldaway TV screen which can quite literally be put in your pocket to carry around. The screen is less than 1 millimetre thick yet is still able to produce 3D images and could very well pave the way for the next generation of TV screens. There is also talk of producing a digital newspaper which can easily fit in your pocket and allow you to update the latest news to read on your travels.
We have been promised a mass of OLED products over the next 12 months and while this bendy TV screen is nowhere near the finished article it offers great potential for the future. Slowly but surely OLED technology is emerging from the shadows of many false dawns to take its place at the head of the technology table. |
