The internet drums are banging to the beat of a major new release from Nintendo with rumours that a number of developers have already seen the new equipment in action. The company has called a press conference for later today and while nobody is quite sure what it is all about we may have seen some well organised leaks into the market to set up the conference. So what can we expect?
It seems as though we are about to see the next generation Wii unveiled, nicknamed the Wii HD, which as you can guess by the name will have a high definition capability. However, there seems to be more to this rumoured console than just the HD capabilities, with many suggesting a greater focus on backward compatibility (for obvious reasons) as well as more storage capacity and digital distribution also taking the limelight.
While the Nintendo Wii has been one of the most popular games consoles of all time it seems as though Nintendo has not been sitting on its hands, having apparently increased the group's research budget by some 300% at a time when many competitors are struggling. The only downside is that the rumoured new console will not be in the shops until 2011! |
