In a study which has been backed by one of the UK's more prominent race horse trainers it has been revealed that vets at the University of Glasgow Equine Hospital will be the first to have access to tiny cameras which can be used to check a horses breathing while in full flow!
The tiny cameras are passed up through the horse's nose and into the animal's respiratory tract, allowing images to be beamed back to a control centre showing movements within the horses breathing system. This then allows researchers to see how the movements within the tract vary between horses as well as offering an early warning system to a number of medical conditions.
However, the presence of well known trainer Mark Johnston on the sidelines would indicate that the so called Dynamic Respiratory Endoscope (DRE) has great potential for use in the horse racing industry where literally every second does count. We are talking about a sport which has produced horses worth tens of millions of pounds and created a betting industry which encompasses the world.
Can you imagine the rush to use this new and revolutionary system? Can you imagine the benefits to someone like Mark Johnston? |
