While many people would question the sense in ‘fixing something that is not broken' it seems as though the leading figures at social networking site Facebook have decided to push through with a new format and new look for the site. However, this has caused something of a backlash with many users and seen upwards of 1 million sign a petition against the move.
For many people Facebook is their way to contact with the outside world, friends and family. The move to what has been described as a more ‘tabbed' approach has seen many applications separated from each other and more navigation than ever before. The result is a sharper look (although it is by no means perfect) but the addition of a number of unwanted adverts may actually be one of the main reasons behind the move.
The array of social networking sites in the UK have done very well to increase customer figures in the face of increasing competition but they need income. These networks are not cheap to administer on a daily basis and the addition of more adverts, although unfortunate from the point of members, is a necessity in the current environment. |
