He may no longer work on a full time basis for the group he built but Bill Gates is playing a major role in the long awaited Microsoft advertising campaign in an attempt to knock Apple out of its stride and put Microsoft back in the limelight. But why did they choose Jerry Seinfeld as his foil and does it actually work?
If you take a quick glimpse at the news today you will see that the advertising campaign has been panned across the board as too bland and with literally no computer orientated content at all. It seems as though the witty chat between the two when Seinfeld attempts to help Gates pick a pair of shoes has gone over the head of many viewers. But hold on, we are talking about the ad, the ad has been covered on places such as TechCrunch and more so is it really a failure?
What do you want from an advertising campaign? Fun, laughter or boring old chat about computers, laptops and the internet?
Surely the fact that there are literally thousands of people writing about and even more viewing the online ad at this moment in time should deem the campaign a success to date? As they say in business, if they are not talking about you then you are not even in the game. |
