As O2 delivers its report on an 8 month trial with Nokia, Transport for London (TfL) and a selection of high street stores it seems as though the vast majority of mobile phone users are more than happy to pay for items and services using their mobile handset. But is this really true across the board?
The trial, which began last year, saw O2 hand out 500 Nokia 6131 handsets with applications for the TfL Oyster Card and Barclay's payWave payment system (a system which scans your mobile payment device without any security codes being entered). Using the system to pay for Oyster Cards and payments under £10 in chosen retail outlets it seems as though the system went down very well with those in the trial.
Aside from the 89% who were happy to use the system, more than 60% had actually asked if they could continue to use the new application. Interestingly a number of mobile phone users actually suggested that their choice of handset would be influenced by such a system being made available in the future.
When you consider the problems with credit card fraud and ID theft it seems strange that so many of us want to take what is affectively a step back in the fight against the fraudsters. Very strange..... |
