While this may sound like just one more new assault on the Apple iPod market the latest offering from Nokia is something very different to anything which we have seen before. In tandem with Carphone Warehouse of the UK the leading hand set manufacturer is set to release a revolutionary new handset into the UK market very soon. So what can it do and how will it eat into Apple's share of the market?
The ‘Comes With Music' phone will offer users access to over 2 million music tracks from record labels which include Universal, Sony BMG and Warner. For a fixed fee, users of the new phone will be able to download as many tunes as they like for one year. Interestingly they will also have permission to use the tunes on their computer and their mobiles. However, after one year they will need to purchase a new phone in order to receive further downloads from the massive catalogue.
If users decide not to purchase a new phone and discontinue with the service they will still be able to use the tracks they have already downloaded and the ‘old' handset will still work fine for calls, etc. As yet no UK operator has stepped forward to subsidise the handset so it will cost around £300 on pay as you go, but if you like music that could turn out to be great value for money! |
