Users of the Firefox internet browser will soon be feeling the benefit of increased speeds as the Mozilla Foundation claim to have made a major breakthrough which will see the speed of the browser overtake anything else in the market. Seemingly it all comes down to how the browser interprets JavaScript with Mozilla having found a way for the browser to treat it as HTML code, thereby increasing reaction times.
The group hope to include a scaled down version of this new script in Firefox version 3.1 but it wont be until the release of Firefox version 4.0 (whenever that may be) that we will see the full benefit. It was also interesting to note that Mozilla technicians are convinced that the new script they are using offers scope for major development in the future and this forthcoming increase in speed could just be the tip of the iceberg.
Firefox has gone from something of a niche internet browser only a few years ago to the main competitor to Internet Explorer. Developments in the system and an ever increasing range of widgets for this open source project have seen it push further and further ahead of the pack. While Internet Explorer is still the number one browser in the world, due in the main to the fact it is pre-loaded onto millions of machines, Firefox is catching up. |
