Recession? What Recession?
Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 20:44 by Mark Benson
Even though the worldwide economy has been in sharp decline for many months now it has been revealed that online spending continues to grow and grow. Figures released by IMRG and Capgemini show that record numbers of people in the UK are doing their shopping online and the trend is set to continue into the future.

The report shows that total online sales in July came in at £4.8 billion, a figure which is a very impressive 11% up on the previous month, and works out at around £79 for each and every person in the UK. While it would be wrong to suggest that anything but the recession has created the current surge it will be interesting to see what happens when the economy picks up – will shoppers move back to the high street or have they turned their backs forever?

Online shopping has shown a marked increase over the last 3 or 4 years and with money tighter than ever before it seems as though many consumers are being tempted online by the promise of cheaper prices and the thousands of promotional offers. Interestingly the recent sales figures show something of a surge in the area of clothing, shoes and fashion accessories which increased by nearly 23% during July.
