Internet On TV Or TV On The Internet?
Friday, August 22, 2008 at 12:55 by Mark Benson
News that Intel has signed a partnership deal with Yahoo! which has the potential to change the way we use our TV's has given the internet sector a major boost. There were concerns that the amalgamation of the Internet and traditional TV was doomed to failure with viewers forced online and away from their traditional environment. However, the deal between Intel and Yahoo! will bring a new ‘Widget Channel' to a TV near you.....

The new service channel will be presented as a ‘snippet bar' along the bottom or up the side of your existing TV screen. The beauty is that you will be able to choose from the thousands of widgets available on the ‘Widget Channel' and watch TV at the same time. The screen view for the ‘Widget Channel' is very flexible allowing users to expand and minimise as they so wish.

While there will be the obvious news and sport services available via the new channel you will also be able to send and receive emails while you watch TV, set up video conferences, share photographs and much more. It will quite literally be the Internet on TV rather than TV on the Internet, and if initial feedback is anything to go by it could bring the TV and Internet sectors closer than they have ever been.
