In a move which will potentially cost Dell a substantial amount of money it has been announced that the warranties on a range of Dell Laptops have been extended by 12 months due to a fault with the Nvidia GPU devices. While it is not certain which machines have been affected or whether the machines which have been flagged will actually shown signs of the fault, Dell has decided to take no chances.
The GPU fault was reported by Nvidia earlier this year and seems to be based upon ‘weak die/packaging material' in a relatively small batch of units. Due to the fault it seems that many units will be subjected to higher than normal temperatures which has led to a higher than normal failure rate with the GPU's. The announcement of the extended warranties was made on Dells information site (www.direct2dell.com) and is affective immediately.
While there is no definitive list of laptops which could be affected the deal will take in the Dell Precision M2300, Dell Precision M4300, Dell Precision M65, Inspiron 1420, Latitude D620, Latitude D630, Latitude D630c, Latitude D820, Latitude D830, Vostro Notebook 1310, Vostro Notebook 1400, Vostro Notebook 1510, Vostro Notebook 1710, XPS M1330, and XPS M1530 to start with although more could be added in due course.
This level of customer service is one of the reasons why Dell is still number one in the sector and has managed to retain a reputation which very few other companies in the world can touch. |
