It may have taken a little longer than many had expected, there may have been little public comment by Tiscali since the BT saga began but it looks as though the whole affair could end up in the law courts after Tiscali started proceedings for defamation and falsehood. It would appear that a behind the scenes attempt to resolve the issue amicably has failed and Tiscali is left with little option but to take legal action.
This has all of the hallmarks of a cat fight to beat all other cat fights with Tiscali obviously concerned that secret plans to sell the UK broadband division were revealed by BT, before Tiscali was able to communicate to customers. While Tiscali will no doubt be on the end of some rather tricky questions if it goes to court, in reality there was little choice.
Tiscali is a multi-billion pound business which has a reputation to uphold as well as an obligation to ensure that their customers are treated with respect. Even though the saga has been ongoing for a few days now there is still no explanation as to how BT was able to obtain the private details of Tiscali customers – and in fact, how did BT know who the Tiscali customers were? |
