Interactive Crime Maps To Hit The UK
Monday, July 28, 2008 at 21:05 by Peter Smith
There are ambitious plans to allow online access to interactive crime maps of the UK, detailing (often down to street level) where and when crimes are occurring. The move was originally announced by the Home Office but a number of councils have joined the scheme to add more depth to the information provided.

It is hoped that by making the public aware of what is happening in their area they can both avoid the troublesome spots and also join together to try and beat crime. The interactive nature of the venture is very interesting and will see government crime statistics shown in a very different, but very useful, light.

The new interactive maps will also help to ensure that the public are aware the police are in their area and acting against crime as quickly as possible. By hopefully prompting a return to the more traditional relationship with the Police of the UK, where respect and assistance went hand in hand, it his hoped the population of the UK can form a united front against crime.

Whether the scheme is as powerful as many hope remains to be seen, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
