Internet Scams On The Increase
Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 11:52 by Peter Smith
It seems as though more and more people are falling victim to the thousands of scams which are attempted every day on the internet. As the economy continues to move downwards money is becoming tighter and people are now prepared to take the chance when a large payment is dangled in front of their faces. So how can you notice a scam?

The vast majority of scam emails are sent at random, and research shows that the likes of Abbey, PayPal and eBay are the more popular covers for these scams in the UK. If you see any email which requests private information, passwords, etc and is addressed to ‘Dear Customer', report this as Spam to you internet provider. If the email requests you to click a URL in the message just hover over the link for a moment (without pressing a key) and you will see the destination URL – not always the same as the text in the message. If it looks bogus or does not feel right, do not click on it!

While the scammers are becoming ever more adventurous in their attempts to relieve you of your cash, your ID and anything else they can get hold of do not forget the above signs – they could just save you a bundle of money and more!
