| PS3's Consume Five Times More Energy Than A Fridge |
| Thursday, June 05, 2008 at 11:03 by Simon Spicer |
In these times of eco-friendly policies and the need to reduce energy consumption it has been reported that the PS3 uses five times more electricity than the average fridge. The report, by Australian consumer group Choice, also claims that the Nintendo Wii was the most energy efficient of the games consoles on the market, with the Xbox not far behind. When you consider that the PS3 uses on average ten times the electricity required by the Nintendo Wii, it very much puts it all into perspective.
As the so called ‘green' debate continue across the world, this is the first time that the games console market has even been mentioned in the same breath. However, it is interesting to see that Sony appears to be putting performance ahead of energy consumption in a bid to regain top spot in a market which they had dominated for many years. But will this new report make a different?
The bottom line is that core members of the gaming market are currently more concerned about the performance of their games console than any eco-friendly issues. While this may change in the future, perhaps this is the reason why the likes of Nintendo and Microsoft have not made more use of these findings. |

| This article is so stupid that my head hurts!
Game consoles are not connected 24/7 like a Fridge is, recent PC's with powerful graphic cards consume more than a PS3, large LCDs consume more than a PS3, etc... this story is just pointless, and a X360 consumes about the same amount of energy a PS3 does!
I thought bashing PS3 was no more a national hobby, but I see I was wrong.
PS: A Ferrari consumes more than a Mini! (PS3>Wii)
What's the logic? |
