YouTube Finally Gets EMI
Tuesday, June 05, 2007 at 12:33 by Darren Chew

EMI Music, the only holdout among all of the major labels, is now licensing music to YouTube. EMI Music had been waiting for YouTube to demonstrate a working version of content identification and filtering technology to their satisfaction.

Users will soon be able to view the entire catalogue of EMI music videos, including artists such as David Bowie, Fat Boy Slim, Coldplay, and Gorillaz. Users will also be able to use those videos and music in their own videos.

Another part of the agreement will have EMI Music and YouTube working together in order to develop revenue-generating business models, of which the identification and filtering technology is central. The technology will be used to restrict and remove specific content and can also track all permitted content. EMI will subsequently be compensated in some manner.
