Yahoo Photo Storage Shutting Down
Monday, May 07, 2007 at 10:08 by Peter Smith

Fans of Yahoo Photo's storage website will be disappointed when they realise that the website is shutting down, and asking their users to move all of their pictures to Flickr instead.

Flickr isn't your only option in moving your photos, however – Yahoo! will be offering various options the tens of millions of registered users who's pictures reside in Yahoo's photo storage.

Most surprisingly, these options indeed include moving everything to PhotoBucket, which is the most popular photo storage website for fans of social networking sites, and nearly anyone else who posts their photos on similar sites, and other, more traditional photo storage and printing sites like Snapfish, Shutterfly, and Kodak Gallery.

The move of Yahoo's photo storage closely follows the massive surge of growth from PhotoBucket, who grew from a quarter of the market to nearly 40 per cent last month, which is by all accounts a massive growth. Also, Yahoo's share has been cut to around 5.8, while Flickr has grown to 4.5 – and it's rising.

Yahoo! has continued to support both Flickr and Photos over the past two years, drawing in different audiences with the difference in the website. Fans of Photos will have to find another website like it to store their favourite pictures, and some simply think that Yahoo is handing their competition their customers.
