20 Million Pound Relaunch for ITV
Saturday, May 05, 2007 at 18:51 by Darren Chew

ITV has unveiled new plans for a 20 million pound re-launch of it's ITV.com service – it provides live programs, access to it's archive via the internet and a 30-day catch-up service.

Unveiled by ITV Executive Chairman Michael Grade, he says that it will launch 'within weeks' and provide shows like Morse, Upstairs Downstairs and Rising damp – also, user-generated news clips from viewers will be shown.

The site will also carry much exclusive content, like interviews with actors, sports figures, and ‘made for broadband' content.

ITV has often been criticized for it being too slow to develop its online offering, but Grade has promised that the broadcaster has got it's time just right – the use of broadband is much more popular now, then ever before, as prices drop lower and lower.

Other companies also offer this type of service, of course – Channel 4 has launched an on demand service for a small fee, and the BBC has given the green light for its iPlayer system. However, the ITV service will be mostly free to watch and enjoy, as it's supported by advertising. It's an exciting time for online enthusiasts and TV lovers alike, and who knows – we may see a boom in the rise of Online TV with the rise of ITV.

What a laugh. First it was March 1, then April 1 and now "within weeks". ITVs management got this way wrong!
