Malicious Links Removed From AdWords
Monday, April 30, 2007 at 19:14 by Peter Smith

Google has officially cancelled accounts of AdWords that have been proven to actually be malicious script intending on hurting your computer.

Displayed as Sponsored Links after searching in Google, they would show the links of legitimate sites, but would then be redirected to a website that would ‘do the dirty deed' and install the malicious programs, then direct you to the legitimate site, so you didn't even know what hit you.

“We detected about 20 different search strings that resulted in links to SmartTrack.org” said Roger Thompson of Exploit Prevention Labs, referring to the malicious links.

And this isn't just the end – web threats are on the rise, reaching all time numbers. It's actually expected that by next year, you can expect more web attacks than email attacks upon your computer.

Google says that they will continue to ‘monitor' the situation. Hopefully, this will mean that less and less malicious websites will be turning up in AdWords, and will help make the internet a safer place for a computer.
