Google Home Page Problems
Monday, April 30, 2007 at 18:06 by Peter Smith

Yesterday, Google's Personalized Home Page service was hit by an unknown glitch, causing people to completely lose their settings as everything returned to default. There's no number to how many people experienced the glitch, but it's estimated to be high – some users probably didn't even report a change.

The high amount of various data loss seems to make clear there is more than one type of the same basic glitch floating around Google.

Google went most of the day without saying a word to the public, until a Community Guide spoke up. “We're now in frantic-chase-down-this-bug mode here at the Googleplex,” He said, sounding apologetic. “For now, we're not entirely sure of this, but it's possible that changing your homepage theme might cause the problem. So, if you still have your homepage intact, please avoid changing your theme until further notice.

The personal pages and data appear to be fixed, and if the issue is still valid for anyone, Google asks that you alert them at once.

Would love to alert them if I didn't have to spend 40 minutes trying to figure out how to contact them.
