Windows 98 support withdrawn
Monday, July 03, 2006 at 19:15 by Simon Spicer

As of July 11 2006, Microsoft will be withdrawing their support of some of their older windows platforms. The affected versions are Windows 98, Windows 98 Special Edition (SE) and Windows Millennium Edition (ME).

It's estimated that this action will leave 70 million users without security updates potentially leaving them open to attacks from hackers. However, Microsoft had originally planned this withdrawal of support for January 2004 but decided to delay in order to give users time to upgrade to a newer version.
