Are consumers falling out of love with iPod?
Sunday, July 02, 2006 at 16:03 by Simon Spicer
There is speculation that Apples ipod range may be losing its shine among consumers worldwide.

The sleek mp3 players are increasingly the subject of allegations from consumers that the products are unreliable and made in sweatshops.

Then you have the new figures from YouGov's brand awareness index, which show a steady but very significant fall in public confidence.

Apple denies that it has a problem with quality, and insist that most of the problems are caused by us (the consumers).

Greg Joswiak, vice-president of iPod marketing, said "the company had a first-year failure rate of 5%. A lot of products don't enjoy such a low failure rate - mobile phones can be up to 30%. The vast majority of customers are extremely happy and have never experienced a failure.

"Most problems are caused by mishandling. They are complex electronic components and they can be broken if dropped or mishandled."

I can tell you with certainty that it was not my fault the Nano piece of crap was not recognized by any computer I own including a Mac. I did everything I could, then replaced my wifes computer. These things are unrealiable. To add insult to injury, when we bought the new computer some of the songs can not be used on it - you guessed it, the ones we bought through i-tunes. BACK TO LIMEWIRE

Tend to agree. Spending hrs on the net to rectify a PC that won't recognise an iPod, even though it works on an XP Sp1 machine. Thousands of users out there who are fed up and just cannot get them to work properly. There's got to be a better way of storing and playing mp3s.
