In early May 2006 a lawsuit backed by Jeffrey Toback, a New York politician charged that Google doesn't do enough to block advertising for child porn and is profiting from the adverts shown. (see more here)
As expected the politician dropped his suit earlier this week with Lawyers for Toback saying that the legislator wished to drop his case against google. However no no public statement has been made yet.
When the case was filed a representative from Google said that the company prohibits child pornography and removes all such content whenever the company finds or is made aware of it. The spokesman also went on to say "We also report it to the appropriate law enforcement officials and fully cooperate with the law enforcement community to combat child pornography"
Google spokesman Steve Langdon had this to say about the case being droped. "pleased that the suit has been dismissed and believe it was completely without merit."
"If Mr. Toback would like to talk with us about something, he should consider approaching it with a phone call, letter or other common form of communication, not an irresponsible lawsuit," Langdon said, adding that the suit contained "some of the most far-fetched accusations we've ever heard."
