Coke Closes UK Music Download Site
Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 17:10 by Peter Smith

Coca Cola has announced it is to close the UK version of its mycokemusic digital music download store. A message on the front page of the site read "mycokemusic is closing on 31st July 2006. If you have credit you can carry on downloading the latest tracks until the service closes but make sure you use them up by 31st July 2006. Thank you for using mycokemusic."

According to the FAQ section of the site Coke is closing mycokemusic as there is simply no need to run it. When the site was launched in 2004 the digital music scene was just developing, the only way for Coke to offer music downloads to its customers was to open its own shop, this is now not the case.

New sign-ups for mycokemusic credits have now been stopped, any customers with existing credits are advised to use them all up by 31st July 2006. Coke notes that "mycokemusic is operated by a company called OD2. Should you wish to move any unused credits to another OD2 service that uses the same file formats we would be happy to do this for you at no additional cost. All transfer requests must be made by 31st August 2006. After this time any unused credit will be lost." There are more details on how to go about this located at the mycokemusic.com website.

Any tracks previously downloaded from mycokemusic will continue to work after the shutdown date, it is recommended that you back up your music to ensure that you keep it safely.
