You can Pre-order Your PS3 today for £550
Friday, June 16, 2006 at 16:32 by Simon Spicer

The price of Sonys new PS3 has been subject to much debate in the media over the last few months.

Play.com are now offering it up for pre-order for £549 it comes with the 60GB HDD & 3 Games (Formula One 06/Warhawk/Singstar), and they expect it to be due for release on 17/11/2006 (despite many people speculating it wont be in the UK until 2007)

Play.com are not guaranteeing delivery and state "Due to an expected European shortage of the PS3, we are unable to guarantee delivery of your PS3 before Christmas. All pre-orders will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis and game titles in this package may be changed, subject to availability."

If this pre-order is like most of Play.coms other pre-order then you wont pay for it until its shipped. So offering the console for sale so early wont generate them any extra revenue but will help them stock up early orders from hardcore PS3 fans.

You can also pre-order:

  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
  • Gran Turismo HD
  • Call Of Duty 3
  • Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway
  • WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2007
  • Warhawk
  • Fight Night Round 3
  • + more

I would hang on a bit to see what everyone else is offering, as these bundles are way too pricey IMO. People who bought Xbox 360 bundles last year couldn't even ebay them for what they paid. Keep an eye on the pre order sites, google preorder ps3 for sites like this - www.pre-order-ps3.co.uk

Poolking - it will be play.com's pricing not Sonys!

Hello, is there ANYONE out there going to buy this console???? I`ve been on so many sites and I can`t even find a "SonyBoy" who is going to buy this at the beginning, either they have no money, or don`t trust the technology, or just hate Sony. I`m one who hates Sony, all the f**king DRM.

Sonys Fanbase is far larger than microsofts. 2 generations of the best selling consoles proves this. Even if the euro launch is going to be a bit slow, the Japanese and American markets will keep this console selling in the beginning, until the Euro morons catch on and realise Xbox's suck

Nintendo's fanbase was massive - until the PS1 came along. With a wife and 3 kids to support - I might just be able to afford a Wii (hopefully before XMAS). £550 (inc. 3 games) is just ridiculous for a games console. I'm just finding it hard to see how parents can justify spending £550 on 1 present. I couldn't see myself doing it - even doing the old 'family present' thing - it's still too expensive. I think most parents would either opt for a 360 or just buy a bloody computer (pseudo educational isn't it?) Exciting times ahead in the console wars methinks.

Im defnitely buying a bundle as soon as more games companies are gonna offer them, so far only play.com are doing this for 549 and im not sure whether id want this bundle or not yet, just depends who else has what. Anyways i will be getting one asap!

You've got to remember that the PS3 is more than just a games console. It's also a Blu-Ray Player (the first in the UK), and media centre for your music, photos etc and it hooks up wirelessly to the internet (with built in browser). For £400+, you effectively getting a PC.

Ps3 will keep going for 10 or more years, xbox 360 has about 2 years left. 360's games are way to short and can be finnished within a weekend. Ps3 will have games up to 50gb compared to 360's 7gb MAX!!. Im getting one on launch and i have purchased a 1000 pound telly to play it on with 1080p. I think people will realise in a few years how much better the ps3 is compared to the 360, but for now the price will always sway them. Imo you get what you pay for and i dont wanna get a 360 now and in a few years think damn now want the ps3, i have been patiant up to now and i think that patiance will pay off EVENTUALLY
