Austrians Broadcast World Cup Matches in ASCII
Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 19:50 by Peter Smith

The Institute for Posttayloristic Studies in Austria has come up with an ingenious work around for people that want to watch the world cup but only have access to telnet. A stream of the World Cup in ASCII.

ASCII-WM 2006 (beta) Is available to anyone that is able to telnet port 2006 on the ascii-wm.net server.

Whilst ASCII art is nothing new, this implementation deservers 10 out of 10 for effort. Advertising itself as "The best, most ridiculous, most redundant graphical implementation of ASCII!" its obvious that the creators have a sense of humour.

ASCII World Cup streams start 10 minutes before kick off and can be accessed from the following:

  • LIVE-STREAM: telnet ascii-wm.net 2006
  • MIRROR: telnet diego.ascii-wm.net 2006

The http://ascii-wm.net/ site also helpfully has a guide on how to access the streams.

Finally it in our own tribute (with a little help from http://ascii-wm.net/) here is our own I.T. vibe tribute to ASCII-Football:
