This beta release will require you to register for a key in order to activate and times out in June 2007. Its worth getting in quick if you are interested as there is an unspecified limit on participants in the beta program. When this limit is reach no new orders will be accepted.
There are currently 6 versions of windows vista beta available for download, 32-bit and 64-bit editions in English, German and Japanese.
Microsoft urge you to note:
"This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a main machine in the home. Beta 2 is intended for developers, IT professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use Beta 2, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007."

Okay, big problems with Vista, even though it's RC1 beta. Tried both betas 32 bit and 64 bit. 32 bit is fine without graphics. Soon as you put graphics in the main selling point for Vista - the screen blotches black. Updated drivers don't work. 64 bit - no drivers but Linux has drivers, not virus checkers available from the main firms but again Linux has 64 bit virus checkers NOW! for Suse Linux 10.1 64 bit operating system. I'm a loyal user of Windows but now they've lost me. I'm going to the Linux camp. Three years on and Microsoft nowhere near completion and to upgrade (and no guarantee it will work properly then) GPU graphics cost more money to upgrade. My computer upgraded ready for Vista and it's not ready! A beta should be not quite right - with Vista it's all wrong and really another two years testing is probably necessary to get it to work properly. Microsoft will rush it out on to the market in January, or delay again but the finished product will be no better than 98. A mess...! I urge you not to buy Vista. One operating system to many from Microsoft! In three years they'll want you to buy another operating system too! They haven't got this one right! I'm surprised I've not seen more comments like this. I'm very surprised! When they do get it working it will be botched as previous operating systems.
