| Investigation into wireless hotspot security finds worrying results |
| Friday, June 02, 2006 at 18:56 by Darren Chew |

A recent investigation by Telindus into wireless hotspot security was released on the 1st June 2006. The results of the investigation are rather surprising.
Telindus sent researchers to various chargeable Wi-Fi hotspots around central London with the sole intention of accessing pornographic and malicious web content.
Armed with a set list of 12 sites and search terms the researchers visited a number of retail outlets using different hotspot providers. They found that approximately 80% of the hotspots visited allowed researchers access to adult porn content and other unsavoury information such as bomb-making and Viagra sites.
James Walker, mobility specialist at Telindus says:-
'To say we were gob-smacked is an understatement. We were expecting to uncover a few surprises, but nothing in the league of what we found. You wouldn't expect cafe owners to leave porn magazines on tables so how come they let us access adult content using their hotspots?
We police Internet access at home and in the workplace, so why not in public areas? Imagine your child popping into a coffee shop or fast food chain with their laptop and being able to access adult content. Surely it shouldn't be allowed?'

| frankly i doubt they even thought about it. There are War Ready ][ hotspots at many petrol stations these days. I doubt the operators of those garages would know what this all even meant. |

| The internet is the information highway.
Internet Cafes Do not supply the laptop just the service. Kids are going to view porn no matter what if they really want to.
I dont think kids are going to hotspots and viewing pornographic site in Cafe's For one the cafes are usually crowded or have people walking around in them.
The last thing they want people to see is them watching Porn Knowing they look 15
Now that your making an article about it Now more and more kids are going to realize they can do such a thing.
MEDIA DRIVES ATTENTION. That is what it is attended for.
Just Like The Internet. It is intended for an Information Highway.
We need to keep it that way.
There is alot of worse things on the internet than pornographic images.
We come out of a vagina being born we suck on a breast for a year.
Sex Is Natural. I do not condone minors vieing adult content. But what I am saying is...
There are alot more negative stuff online like bomb making, Drug manufacturing, Child Pornography, How to make a gun out of a Mechanical Pencil, So So So Much more worse things.
Why is everyone running around seeing if they can see pornographic images on the net? Who would sponsor such a test?
I would like to know since they are throwing money around for such idiotic surveys/tests.
Think Of It This Way.
INTERNET = Information Highway.
INTERSTATE 5 = Traffic Highway.
Now the question is.
Do You let your kids Play Or Look At The Highway For Hours At A Time?
NO.
So Dont Give Your Child Access To The Internet While Not being Monitored.
Do You Ban Your Child From Crossing The Street Cause Of Cars? Affraid That Your Kid Might Get Mooned, or Hit By A Car?
NO.
Instead You Teach Them How to cross the street. You Also Teach them how to look away as someone moons them, If the normal reaction is not already their.
Be A Responsible Parent and do your job. Teach Them Give Them Morals. Dont buy them a cellphone that has the capability of viewing adult content. That is condoning it. The Only People That need laptops are College Students anyway. And If They Want to view Adult Content Then They Are The Age That They CAn MAke That Decision.
