Silver Surfer week helps older people
Monday, May 22, 2006 at 20:13 by Peter Smith

This week (22nd - 26th May) Is Silver Surfer Week. Organised by Charity Age Concern, Silver Surfer week is a series of events aimed at teaching older people how to harness the power of the web.

Events are taking place up and down the country, More information is available by calling 0800 100 900, or by checking the Silver Surfer website.

The event has had many success stories, such as that of Budgerigar fanatic Frank Jones, 74, who used the information he gained during a previous Silver Surfer week to find friends around the world without leaving his armchair, He also uses the web to do his shopping.

"There's so much choice on the internet and buying plants, seeds and even fish online cuts the cost of purchasing them in the shops" Says Frank. "I've just had a delivery of koi from a breeder in Bristol and ordered a new mobile phone online too."

Silver Surfer week is supported by BT, Intel, and Microsoft with thanks to AOL, Ofcom, and learndirect Advice
