| Sony announce UK Playstation 3 Price |
| Friday, May 19, 2006 at 11:52 by Peter Smith |

Sony have announced the intended UK price of the Playstation 3. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Eurogamer TV, Ray Maguire, Sony Computer Entertainment UK's managing director, announced that PS3 will retail at £425.
"It's a bargain," said Maguire, "I don't think it's an expensive machine; I think actually, it's probably a cheap machine."
"If you think a Blu-Ray player by itself might be £600-700, and we're coming in at just £425 - it's a bargain."
During E3 Sony stated the EURO price of the PS3 will be €599, at today's exchange rate (Provided by OANDA) this converts to £405.68, roughly £20 short of Sonys UK price. The XBOX 360 currently retails at £280
"£425 is definitely not a mass market price, no," Said Maguire "But you think about the price, think about the price of just a Blu-Ray player. It will be cheaper than a Blu-Ray player just by itself. So fundamentally we're going to be great value just from that point of view without even looking at the games side."
"The point is that most people don't realise what they're actually getting with PlayStation 3," Maguire said.
"Number one, it's a games machine and we all know that. But also it's a high definition video playback device through Blu-Ray, and a lot of people don't really understand that part of the functionality either. There's a big story to tell people and a lot of information to be taken on board."
Microsoft have reportedly told UK retails that the XBOX 360 with HD-DVD add-on will be cheaper than the PS3 by Christmas 2006. |

| Blu Ray might be a pink elephant though, theres another standards war about to happen in the media industry, if you happen to keep up with that sort of thing.. It looks as though the HD-DVD standard is better specc'd though and my betting is that although HD-DVD is a completely different technology that because it carries the DVD suffix, people will associate with that as a technology they are comfortable with.
Sony is backing Blu Ray though, which says a lot in itself. |

| Really articulate response Anonymous, surprised how your comment slipped through the net. I for one think that is way too expensive, I hope that sony haven't shot themselves in the foot. |

|
| I got my xbox360 about a month after release, i wanted one but was not too fused about pre-order as i tend to prefer my playstation.
I was 100% going to preorder the ps3 as soon as i could, but considering the price i think i will hold off for them to drop the price. Which in my opinion they are going to HAVE to do.

| poolking, i found Anonymous' post legible, he speaks as most people do. what gets me is that they offer a cheaper option and then won't sell it in UK :/ |
|
|
| the price target on the ps3 is a complete rip off |
|
|
| AS LONG AS IT DELIVERS WHAT IT SAYS IT DOES THEN THE MONEY IS ALL WORTH IT.... |
|
|
