Microsoft Vista system requirements could be bad for Intel and AMD
Friday, May 19, 2006 at 08:50 by Simon Spicer

Microsoft have released the system requirements you need to run Windows Vista and they seem quite modist.

Microsoft claim that a Windows Vista Capable PC should include at least:

  • A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
  • 512 MB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

This will however limit your experience, so if you were looking to make full use of Vista then your Windows Vista Premium Ready PC should include at least:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero
  • 128 MB of graphics memory.
  • 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
  • DVD-ROM Drive
  • Audio output capability.
  • Internet access capability.

For more information on the specs and about getting ready for Windows Vista click on over to http://www.windowsvista.com/getready

If these specs are true then many people will not be required to upgrade their PCs which could enrage the bosses at Intel and AMD, it could also start to put pressure on the so-called Wintel alliance.

However its suspected that running windows on these specs could see users running to upgrade their processors due to crawling and struggling systems.

We will test these specs over the weekend and see how Vitsa really runs on these specs.

Well, you could choose not to use windows vista. I am still using win2k. Yes, it a 7-year old operating system(released in august 1999 as I remember), but it makes my last-generation PC run like a spaceship.
