Google accused of profiting from child porn
Tuesday, May 09, 2006 at 10:23 by Simon Spicer
A lawsuit backed by Jeffrey Toback New York politician has charged that Google doesn't do enough to block advertising for child porn and is profiting from the adverts shown.

The complaint filed on Thursday claims that Google has been taking in billions of pounds by allowing child pornography and "other obscene content" adverts on their sites through sponsored links.

The suit may not get far because of Googles policy which prohibits the "promotion of child pornography or other non-consensual material".

Google also offers SafeSearch a filtering tool that aims to block offensive content in their search results.

A representative from Google has since said that the company prohibits child pornography and removes all such content whenever the company finds or is made aware of it. The spokesman also went on to say "We also report it to the appropriate law enforcement officials and fully cooperate with the law enforcement community to combat child pornography"
