Nintendo Wii Revolution
Friday, April 28, 2006 at 14:41 by Darren Chew
Nintendo have finally released the official name of its latest console. Originally code-named 'Revolution' whilst being developed the new console has had a rather unexpected change in direct in regards to it's name. The new name chosen by Nintendo is 'Wii'.

Nintendo.com unveiled the new 'Wii' name saying:

Introducing. Wii.
As in "we".
Whilst the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games, and each other. But you're probably asking: what does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we”, which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter that language they speak. No confusion, No need to abbreviate. Just Wii
.

Why the ii spelling you ask?

"Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that's Wii
".

The new Wii console is set to boast sophisticated design and technology, backward compatibility with Nintendo Gamecube games and a huge historical library offering access to 20 years of gaming history from Nintendo with NES, SNES and Nintendo 64 titles.

The Wii console has lots of neat gadgets up its sleeves, one of which is the cordless remote control device designed to be used with one hand, there are also two small sensors to be placed near the TV and a chip inside the controller track its position and orientation, allowing the player to manipulate the action on screen by physically moving the controller itself.

Reports say the Wii console should be released this Autumn.

There are now claims that the Nintendo Wii will cost $200 in order to under cut xbox etc. This are still not official prices, but just a "best guess".

I've put this passed many who dont know how to play games withnormal controllers or frankly dont care that they dont play games and they went "WOW" (and probbably did a little wii aswell) I think nintendo have thought outside the box, people just wanna have fun, not have the hottest processor Can't wait, no doubt the quality will be excellent as always... might buy a cube again int ime for the wii as the games are backward compatible
