Cyber criminals are younger and more sophisticated
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 21:52 by Simon Spicer
The cost of computer crimes in the UK has doubled in the past two years. Tony Neate of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) said "with some 11,000 people signing up to use ecommerce sites and internet banks each day, criminals are being presented with plenty of potential new victims"

While speaking at InfoSecurity Europe in London on Tuesday he also noted that E-criminals and fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated, younger and smarter.

All of this comes as the Department of Trade and Industry released its latest IT security breaches survey. The survey backs up Tony Neate's comments by showing that computer crime in the UK has increased by 50 per cent to £10bn per year.

Tony went on to refute recent criticisms that Soca is not focused enough on tackling e-crime targeted at businesses.

"The future looks pretty bright. We are bigger, we are getting smarter. And we are still here to offer support to businesses and consumers" he said.

Bright ? it increased by 50% and thats 'bright' ? They are bigger and getting smarter. While the criminals/fraudsters are even bigger, and oh so gargantuanly smarter. Best way to solve it? Be one, Hire one, Use one. Find more. Repeat as necessary.
