Microsoft confirms HD-DVD drive for Xbox 360
Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 18:57 by Simon Spicer
A Microsoft executive has confirmed that a HD-DVD-drive will be released for the Xbox 360 and that more details will be released at E3 this year.

The move will allow you to enjoy HD games and movies on your Xbox 360, when pushed for more details the executive stated "You will hear a lot more about that question at E3".

When asked about the release of the new PS3 which will include a Blu-ray DVD-player he responded by making a dig at Sony "Blu-ray right now reminds us of another technology from Sony: Betamax. A bit like VHS -- we think that HD DVD is the format that consumers, film studios and publishers will embrace."

Bill Gates also noted that the Xbox 360 has become a powerful application for high-definition television and that more than 50 new high-definition Xbox 360 games will be available by June 2006.

The only reason Microsoft is doing this is because they know the Playstation 3 is already twice as powerful as the Xbox 360. PS3's Blu-ray DVDs still hold more capacity than HD-DVDs, so the only point of this move is to make more money by releasing something else that is a necessity to play the new games.

Microsoft innovation = promote the use of a technology that is out of date before it is released.
