During a radio broadcast in France, George Fornay (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe VP) mentioned that the Sony PS3 could retail between €499 and €599 when released in Europe.
This price when converted into Dollars and Pounds Sterling equates to approximately $614 - $737 and £350 - £420
Now this doesn't necessarily mean that this is the price the unit will retail for in the U.S. and U.K (U.S and U.K prices are yet to be announced) but it could give an indication as to the possible price range.
We already knew that the PS3 was going to be expensive partly due to expensive components like the Cell processor and Blu-ray disc playback, but a price that high would make it the most expensive Sony console in the last decade.
You will have to wait for an offical price to be released from Sony UK Direct before knowing for sure what the official U.K retail price will be. However, with fierce competition from the likes of Microsoft and Nintendo would Sony be wise to risk a price that high or, are they running the risk that a large chunk of the market with the exception of the Playstation die hard fans go elsewhere?
