MySpace.com removes its more risqué material
Monday, April 03, 2006 at 14:41 by Simon Spicer
MySpace.com, the fast-growing community website that lets you meet your friends has removed 200,000 "objectionable" profiles from its site e.g. those containing ‘hate speech' and ‘risqué' material. The move was taken as MySpace.com steps up its efforts to calm parents and teacher fears about the safety of the social network for young internet users.

MySpace.com which is popular among teens and young adults allows users to create profiles and private communities where they can share photos, journals and interests. Profiles can be linked to other MySpace.com “friends” creating growing networks of mutual friends.

The site was acquired by News Corp last year and its phenomenal growth has placed it at the centre of the media company's internet strategy. News Corp is looking to make MySpace.com more attractive to “brand advertisers” and is taking steps to improve the social networking site. The removal of these 200,000 "objectionable" profiles from the site could well see more advertisers coming to the site.
