Nintendo DS to feature Opera Browser

Opera software have today announced that it will be the Internet Browser for Nintendo's Japanese customers on the companies DS system.

The Opera browser will be sold as a DS card, requiring users to insert the card when they need to browse the web. Opera takes advantage of the WiFi capability of the device and will enable the user be able to browse the web across the two screens of the DS. The Nintendo DS features a browser based on the core of the desktop browser, which has the hearts of millions of Internet users.

"Within just five seconds of turning on the system, the Nintendo DS is already fully operational. This makes it the ideal device to enable people to swiftly obtain the latest information from the internet, wherever they are," said Masaru Shimomura, Deputy General Manager of Nintendo's R & D Department. "Opera exceeded our expectations with its user friendly interface, quick access to all your favorite sites, ease of use and, most importantly, in making the best use of the Nintendo DS system's unique double screens and touch screen features. Opera is an important partner for Nintendo in our efforts to further expand the users of the Nintendo DS."

Nintendo DS has seen 13 million DS units sold in the first 13 months since it's release in November 2004, and has become the fastest selling video games machine in the Japanese market, selling 6 million units in 14 months. This has seen it break the record previously owned by it's predecessor the Game Boy Advance.

What's the price of this product and how will users pay for the service? Can the internet be accessed everywhere? I dunno, If it orignally came out with this feature I'd feel a bit better, this is more a japnese gadget than a european one. Just raises "Too many questions". cool though :)
