| Sunday, January 08, 2006 at 22:25 by Rich Kavanagh |
When it comes to gaming and home entertainment, Michael Dell demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show that the personal computer continues to reign as the consumer product of choice.
At his Industry Insiders keynote at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show, the chairman of Dell Inc. introduced three new products that deliver previously unavailable features to enhance customers' experience in high-end gaming and mobile productivity. They include new XPS desktop and Inspiron notebook systems and a 30-inch LCD monitor, each offering extreme performance for entertainment, gaming and multimedia.
Dell expects to be the first tier-one vendor to offer a desktop with certified NVIDIA quad core graphics, one of the first notebooks with dual-core technology and the first 30-inch flat panel monitor list-priced less than $2,200.
Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Inc. said,
"It's still about the PC at the center of the consumer experience. Customers demand more from their computer systems, whether they're using them to share photos and view movies at home or go head-to-head playing the most extreme games. Today it's about performance, superior graphics and connectivity wherever users' digital lifestyles take them. No one knows customers' technology needs better than Dell and here at CES we're showcasing the best of the best."
The limited-edition XPS 600 Renegade system is expected to be the first to support two new NVIDIA GeForce 7800 SLI graphics cards, which can link four graphics processors to speed up overall video performance or draw images with intense realism. The system also features Dell's first overclocked and factory-set 4.26 GHz Intel Extreme Edition dual-core processor. Overclocking is designed to increase the processor speed beyond mainstream usage to deliver over-the-top performance critical to extreme gamers. Dell's implementation of the processor is supported by the expertise of specially trained XPS technicians.
During his address, Mr. Dell was joined on stage by Richard Garriott, executive producer of NCsoft, and Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. Mr. Garriott demonstrated NCsoft's next-generation online game, Auto Assault. Mr. Huang unveiled NVIDIA's new quad SLI technology and explained how the graphics technology in PCs can outperform gaming consoles.
Each limited-edition XPS 600 Renegade will be custom painted by Mike Lavallee of Killer Paint, known worldwide for his detailed artwork on cars and motorcycles. Dell expects to provide pricing and ship the limited-edition XPS 600 Renegade in the U.S. in the spring of 2006.

The PowerMac G5 Has 4 processors and a custom built Nvidia card to work with all the processors. Plus, their 30-inch display is High Definition.
Intel should probaly go 64-bit before they go dual-core. |
