This time last year not many people, Steve Jobs included, seemed to think that there was much of a market for a portable video player like a video iPod, and Apple had denied that it would be bringing such a product to market.
However as we all know that changed a couple of months ago when Apple announced it's new video iPod and iTunes video download service. Since it's launch Apple has already sold over three million video downloads at around $1.99 a go, so it just goes to show that where Apple goes, the consumer will follow.
The video download market was further strengthened today when NBC Universal announced that it will be selling eleven of it's shows through iTunes. These shows include The Office and Battlestar Galactica, and add to the already impressive line up of videos available through the iTunes service, including over 2000 music videos and shows from the SciFi channel, Disney and ABC.
People clearly do want to watch video on the go, particularly episodes of their favourite shows that are more conducive to this style of playback, perhaps during the daily commute when there's just time to catch up on that missed episode of Lost. Apple have once again shown their ability to become a market leader in very little time, and we expect their video offerings to continue to grow.
